    Dissolving a Virtual Container
    Updated Mar 28, 2022

      Dissolving a Virtual Container

      Note:
If you wish to run Dissolve for an IIS application, you must first use the Windows Service Manager on the destination machine to stop all IIS services.

      Caution:
The dissolve action cannot be reversed.

      To Prepare for Dissolve

      1. Uncompress the container if it is compressed: in the Administrative Console, select the container, and then click Uncompress.

      2. If services are associated with the selected container and these services are running, click the Services tab, then right-click each service and select Stop to stop the services.

      3. Click Undock.

      4. Click the Tether tab.

      5. Disable Tether if it is enabled: de-select the Enable Tether check box.

      6. Click Save.

      7. At the prompt, click Yes or No to regenerate the container template as appropriate.

      To Dissolve an Application

You can dissolve a container using the virtadissolvePreview command or by clicking the Dissolve toolbar button in the VirtaMove Administrative Console.

      1. In a command prompt window, execute:

        virtadissolve c:\appliances\<ContainerName>
      2. Review the Dissolve report for the container, located in the following directory:

        c:\appliances\<ContainerName>\VirtaDissolve_Report.html
      3. Resolve any issues or errors listed in the Dissolve ReportPreview . If you resolved issues, run Dissolve again. Run Dissolve as many times as required to successfully dissolve the application.

      4. Restart your computer. If you do not restart, services may not start correctly and may not display correctly in the Services Control Manager.
