Migrating COM, COM+ and DCOM Components
    Published Mar 03, 2022

Migrating COM, COM+ and DCOM Components

You can migrate COM, COM+ and DCOM components using the Administrative Console. You must meet pre-requisites first; for more information, see Migrating COM+ and DCOM ApplicationsPreview. If pre-requisites are not met, components will not be fetched and the Source COM tab will alert you to this fact.

The Source COM tab is populated when you click Find Applications. DCOM functionality is enabled by default. VirtaMove attempts to automatically identify, pre-select, and export required DCOM components during the "Pre-Populate" step. This functionality is always enabled.

To Export Source COM, COM+ and DCOM Components to a Container

      1. Select a container, and then click the Tether tab.

      2. Click the Use Tether check box to enable Tether, if the check box isn't already enabled.

      3. Run an Audit of the source and destination machine by clicking the Run Audit button. If credentials fail or pre-requisites have not been met for tethering, an error message is displayed at the bottom of the Administrative Console window. To scroll through messages, click the Back or Forward button on the left or right of the message bar. You can view the Audit Report by going to the Appliance Logs tab to determine what the problem is.

      4. Click the Find Applications button to discover remote products, services, users, groups and COM, COM+, and DCOM components. Discovered items are displayed in the Source Products tab.

      5. In the Source Products tab, review the list of applications on the source machine.

      6. Select the product or products you want to migrate or de-select a product or products as appropriate. When you click away from the list in the Source Products tab, VirtaMove Tether automatically selects all user/group accounts, services, executables, and COM, COM+, and DCOM components associated with the installed application and displays these in the Source Services, Source Accounts, and Source COM tabs.

      7. Click the Source COM tab, and then select the remote COM, DCOM, and COM+ components you want to export to your container or de-select components as applicable.

      8. Click Pre-populate to export the components to the container. This process may take some time.

      9. If you make any changes in the Source COM tab after step 7, you must click Save to save your changes.

      10. You can now dock and run your container.
