Installing Source Agents remotely by using the Maestro application saves time by allowing you to install an agent on many sources at once. To use this method to install Source Agents, you must first install the V-Maestro server software. See Installing V-Maestro Server SoftwarePreview for more information.

You can also use V-Maestro to remotely install a single Source Agent.

You can also manually install a Source Agent on each machine. See Installing Source Agents ManuallyPreview.

      Pre-Requisites

      • Ports TCP 137, 139, and 445 must be open to install VirtaMove Source Agent.

      • Port 9665 must be open to connect to the VirtaMove Source Agent on the source machine.

      • Port 443 (https) is used to communicate with the V-Maestro web interface from the outside. Make sure that the port is allowed through the firewall.

To Install Multiple Source Agents Remotely Using a CSV File

You can install multiple Source Agents remotely by providing V-Maestro with information about each server. Do this by creating a list of comma-separated values (a CSV file) that lists the server information that V-Maestro requires. The file must use one line for each server and use the following format:

      IP_or_Hostname, Administrator_Username, Administrator_Password

      Note:
If a Source Agent is already installed, providing credentials in the comma-separated list does not re-install the Source Agent.

      1. Create a CSV file that includes information about each of the machines on which you want to install a Source Agent.

      2. In the V-Maestro UI, click Manage>Sources.

      3. Click the Add Source button.

      4. Select Bulk Add with CSV File.

      5. Select the CSV file you want to use by clicking Choose Files, then click Open.

      6. Click Continue.

      7. Review the list of source servers. You can exclude any servers on the list by unselecting them in the Select column.

The installation runs in the background and the new machines connect automatically. The V-Maestro user interface displays the machines as they are discovered.

To Install a Single Source Agent Remotely Using V-Maestro

      1. Click Manage>Sources.

      2. If you're adding your first source to V-Maestro, you can add one by clicking the Add Sources icon at the top right or at the bottom of the Source Inventory window.

        OR

      3. Select Use an IP Address/Hostname.

      4. In the Add Source window, enter the IP address or hostname of the server you want to install to, then click Continue.

      5. Click Install.

      6. Enter the user name for the Administrator account and the password for the Administrator account, then click Continue.

      7. Click Close or click Add Another to add another source manually.

What If a Source Agent Was Previously Installed and V-Maestro Does Not Discover It?

It may happen that a Source Agent was previously installed on a source via manual installation, yet V-Maestro does not discover it automatically. This could be because the discovery ping cannot traverse the customer's network topology. If this is the case, you can use the Add Source button. When V-Maestro detects that a Source Agent is already installed on the source, it will not perform a re-installation - it will simply attempt to connect to the node. Once connected, the node is added to the V-Maestro database.

If the previously installed Source Agent is not the same version as V-Maestro or if there is an SSL mismatch on the source, then V-Maestro will indicate this status in the Add Source window. You can then force the installation by clicking Reinstall. Click Retry Connecting if V-Maestro does not connect successfully.
